About GREAT LAKES LEARNING
About Great Lakes Learning
Great Lakes Learning emerges as a dynamic evolution from the pioneering spirit of Project ECHO, founded in 2003 by Dr. Sanjeev Arora at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. Originally conceived to address the critical gaps in specialty care access, Project ECHO revolutionized medical education through tele-mentoring and collaborative care models.

At Great Lakes Learning, we build upon the foundational principles of Project ECHO while expanding into diverse medical disciplines and categories. Our mission is clear: to empower healthcare professionals across the Great Lakes region and beyond through comprehensive medical education. We believe in harnessing the power of modern technology to bridge gaps in healthcare access and to foster informed decision-making among patients.

Our Mission
Our mission at Great Lakes Learning is rooted in promoting medical excellence and patient empowerment through innovative educational platforms. We leverage state-of-the-art tele-mentoring technologies to connect clinicians with specialized knowledge, enabling them to deliver high-quality care to underserved populations across our region.

Medical Freedom and Informed Patient Decisions
At the heart of our mission is the belief in medical freedom and the right of patients to make informed decisions about their healthcare. We empower healthcare providers with the knowledge and tools they need to enhance their clinical expertise and decision-making capabilities. By facilitating collaborative learning and knowledge sharing, we aim to elevate standards of care and promote patient-centered outcomes.

How We Operate
Great Lakes Learning operates by facilitating live-streamed digital meetings using advanced platforms such as Zoom. These sessions enable healthcare professionals to engage in interactive discussions, share best practices, and collaborate on complex medical cases. Through these interactions, participants gain valuable insights and skills that directly impact patient care and outcomes.

The Great Lakes ECHO branch of this innovative new project was formed by Dr. Avery Jackson (Prominent Michigan Neurosurgeon), making us one of the first ECHO providers in the state of Michigan. We are proud to join the national ECHO project to help bring better care to patients across the country using new methods made possible by modern technology.
